Arriving at Selby I could finally relax my whole week had been spent making sure the final preparations were done and dusted.
The weigh in sheets were printed, maps of everyone’s pegs were done.
Pulling up in the car park I could see a few members were already there and viewing the lake, I remember seeing Chris 69, Hagz and Minx.
After a little get together we went to our pegs and started to set up our bivvies.
People arrived one after the other drew their pegs and went to set up. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement.
This year we held a bbq I told each member to there at 7pm so we could socialize with strict instructions to pull in their rods.
I didn’t think many would do this as after all it was a fishing match, but I thank you all for doing what I asked and making the effort to get to know us all.
Friday night was social night. B.O and Sal were in the next peg to me and Jay, Sal looked a little out of her depth, when I asked her what was wrong she replied….
“I’m not used to being quiet, I like music blasting”
Minx and I looked at other and brimmed with glee, B.O had a confused look on his face Sal obviously had us mistaken, me! Quiet NEVER.
I looked at Sal and replied
“Don’t worry love, bring your cd to the car park at 7pm and well have it blasting at the bbq.”
With Sal looking happy and starting to relax herself time was getting on, Beggo and Minx had started the bbq and people were arriving.
Every one made the effort to come round to the car park and socialize, everyone had taken their rods out of the water, and I hadn’t even cast out.
We all had a blast, the food music and company was excellent even though minx broke the bbq!!! [All the antics can be read about in the main forum].
By Saturday the fishing match was well on its way many Bream and Tench were caught, while the carp seemed to be eluding us, but eventually the first carp was caught weighing 24lb 2oz a new personal best for Martin Parsons [mazza].
Then Colin May had the next fish out at 19lb 9 oz, followed by a 22lb 15oz then he hauled out a 5lb 8 oz carp, a total weigh in of 48lb.
Next was Richard Haggath [Hagz] to catch a beast of a fish weighing in at 32lb 7oz.
Then it was Jay [jayax] who caught with a 17lb 7oz.
The lake went quiet with the odd Bream or Tench to follow, until Sunday morning when it was the turn of Jane Haggath [little minx] who caught her new personal best of 20lb 7oz.
Then just as the match finished at 12 midday, Ady /Arrakis struck into a fish, once he pulled it out and weighed it he had bagged a 31lb 10oz carp.
The weekend had flown by and now it was time to pack up and go home but not before the final meet up in the car park to hand out the prizes to the winners, this year we had spent a little on more prizes so each winner had something they could keep as like before the gnome and singing fish must return we also had another gnome donated by Shane Begbie [Beggo] just in case last years gnome didn’t arrive which thankfully it was returned by last years winner. Jay had bought 2 fleeces and 3 t-shirts. We also had a donation from T himself 2 bags of pellet.
Once in the car park the winners were arranged in order…
